Hello guys,

After I found a quite nice skin for the M16A4 which featured Tritium iron sights, I decided to try to make a pack of tritium sights for all the Security weapons. However, I have been searching for about 6 hours now and all I could find where normal skinning tutorials. Bottom line, I don't know how to make the tritium texture actually glow during the night. If anyone knows how to do this, please share your wisdom with me, I would appreciate it a lot!

<del>If anyone wants a link to the skin that inspired me, I'd be happy to pm it to you (I don't know if it's ok for me to post someone else's work here, especially considering the fact that I did not even ask for their permission).</del>

This skin was made by Haven

Update 9/3/14:

Quote:I finally made progress! I started with the M16, since I already had something to guide me where to do what on the textures. However, since I couldn't clearly see where the front sight was on the normal map, there is tritium in places where there shouldn't be any and I also need to lower the tritium dots on the rear sight a bit, so that they align better with the front sight tritium. At least I managed to self-illuminate only the tritium and not the entire gun, which I did do at 1st (this is my 1st time trying to texture using gimp, so don't expect much for now).

Some screenies to show you guys what I have done up until now (I apparently I "can't use this image extension on this community", so I'll provide the links): http://cloud-2.steam...76.resizedimage

Update 26/3/14:

I am having trouble locating the iron sights of each gun in the textures (especially the M249, that things texture is a nightmarish clutter, so many little pieces everywhere QQ) so I will have to delay the full pack. By the end of the month I will make a new post with the WIP release, which will include the M16A4 and whatever gun I manage to do by then.

A simple way is to make the tritium part its own material using UnlitGeneric.

Thanks, but these pictures are already old, I fixed all the bugs on the M16, it's 100% complete. I will work on the Mk18 next, and probably release the entire pack by the end of the month.

Those look really awesome!  My only small criticism (more of a personal preference) is that I would like the tritium on the front post to be more in the middle, leaving some black above it, you would also have to lower the rear dots to match.  This is how most real night sights are set up.

When in doubt,  Always let a teammate go in first.

I am aware of this, but the bullets in Insurgency have no real ballistics and go exactly where the sight is aimed at (at least I think s0) and I don't want to screw up shooting for people who happen to use iron sights in longer ranges in conjunction with controlled semi automatic fire to kill an enemy, so I won't be changing this unless my above assumption is wrong.

Mmm, well, it's up to you.  It's just my eyes don't like having the top of the the front post green when I'm trying to line up shots in the daylight and at long range.
