i want to make a tutorial video for modding, so people dont ruin their servers clients with understanding of trying to use mods to better insurgency and not to replicate an exact weaker copy of a previous game, but right now if i made a video on what i have done everyone interested will be asking questions i dont have the answers to and the devs of these areas dont or havent released info on it yet, meaning we have to go test it, but it could always be worse ><    hopefully a guide or some info will come out on this topic from the creators

Theaters are an absolute mess right now. Can't even change the name of the teams without squad selection becoming all FUBAR. This is what I have right now but it's broke as f*ck and it seems even though theaters were "released" quite a few updates ago, nobody wants to let us know the proper way to implement them

For people who are new to theaters, there is an easy, user friendly way to test your theater on bots through the in-game GUI:

 

1) Copy your script/theaters folder from your Insurgency Dedicated Server folder to your Insurgency 2 folder

 

2) Open Insurgency 2/maps/siege.txt and add to the 2nd line "theaterFile"   "Your theater file without the .theater extension"

 

3) Load the game, click "play now" and then "practice"

That was the old way. Now it's easier to just open the console and use "mp_theater_override <theater_name>" and then changelevel. End result is still a brokenass theater that does not work though.

I was struggling with those same results last night (no squad selection, no weapons), but eventually I realized I had a bogus base theater reference, and later, a missing bracket that was causing the whole thing to go FUBAR. Once I fixed those things, it worked - albeit with some bugs in the kit menu like random purple checkboard patterns, broken M4A1 appearing in place of the Mk18, and some attachments appearing twice.

 

So maybe you've done this already, but it's worth going over your files with a fine-toothed comb for little errors like missing brackets or filenames, cause sometimes it's just the littlest thing that breaks the whole game.

we have turned 3 teams into 12 teams for competition in 1 month, aiming for 20 teams by the end of this month, have a complete website integrated pug system have 2 competition maps done and working on 3 more have raised 240$ to host our 500$ tourney (coming soon) and currently have an AC as well 

 

things like changing capture time in vip showing the change but having no effect, cmmon i have brought this up a while ago and still not one response of looking into it... if you are not going to fix it or don't want to, please let us, we are pushing "your" game and your responses tells everyone of us you do not care

 

why do we get ignored when we bring you key flaws in the game, or the theater file clearly not having all the information in there, cs cod were not huge cause they stayed the exact same game, they changed improved "MODDED" let us do your work for you like any other successful game, you gave us a foundation which we really like and enjoy, let us do our part now

Jeremy, for some reason using the new format on the theaters and editing literally ANYTHING breaks the theater but I was able to get it up and running using a combination of both the old format and the new to rename teams, squads, restrict weapons and denote what models to use for each class. Although I'm guessing that since the theater has nothing now to tell it what model to use for the Insurgent classes I'm going to have to fix that next.

 

Insurgents now have models so when is someone going to explain how we're supposed to limit and restrict armor and attachments?

If anyone knows where the file paths for the ammo pics in the kit menu are defined, let me know.

 

I have managed to change all the major ammo types to milspec loads, and even add new ammo types, but any time you change the name of an ammo or add a new one, it breaks the pic on the kit menu and leaves a purple checkerboard.

thanks guys for struggling with things like this to bring great custom content in the future.

 

the problem right now is that there are not really any active mods (besides snuffel) in the forums, so the only official response ever is from the devs and that doesnt come really regular.

 

we need some good mods also for technical aspects and competitive scene to use ppls motivation!

"moderators" implying there are any more than you which yet needs to be proven Tongue

 

although you are generally right it would be possible to recruit a moderator from the mod community who'd be in touch with the devs and thus could provide further guidance.

 

a mod doesnt have to know more than the others but given the right communication structure he could. (we re talking official mods here, refer to WoW mods eg)

Can we get a basic file detailing what the variables are? I've gotten pretty far with guess and save edits, but I'm having weird issues that would be easily resolved if I knew what the settings were. In particular, I added the 8.7x scope to the FAL, it works but it is aligned way too high, assuming it's an FOX issue. I'd also like to see some other theater editors putting up their files for us to learn from, once I get mine fixed I'll post it for people to use.
